"A Pinch of Magic Salt"
The presence of nitrate in carbonate electrolytes dramatically alters Li nucleation from dendritic to spherical, albeit extremely limited solubility. The effect was studied using advanced characterization tools such as cryo-EM and ultramicroelectrode. And a sustained-release approach was introduced to overcome the solubility barrier, significantly improving the electrochemical performance of Li metal anode in corrosive carbonate electrolytes.
